ALESSANDRO IMBRIACO »THE GARDEN« – selected by ALESSANDRA MAURO

»THE GARDEN is a long, intimate and touching reportage on a non-conventional housing style. A father, a mother and a little daughter, Angela, live in a sort of “enchanted garden”, under trees and in a wild bush that, in fact, is not a faraway forest, but is located in the area surrounding Rome, close to the highway. I have known Alessandro Imbriaco for many years, and have been able to follow this work. I had the opportunity to estimate his deep concern and his delicate approach in getting to know the family, and specially Angela. I also experienced how he was able to document, with a very sensitive and respectful touch, the special atmosphere and the family’s right to find their own way of living. The pictures are delicate and enchanted and, at the same time represent a new possibility for documentary photography to tell the different stories hidden in the daily life of our countries. The book is very well made and printed (not an easy task: the pictures are very dark and need special care so that the richness of the different shades of black is respected on the pr inted page).«
