AMIN EL DIB »SILBERLICHT« – selected by THOMAS WIEGAND

»To begin with, SILBERLICHT is an artistic examination of traditional photographic technology. Amin El Dib arranged exposed Baryt paper into still-lifes and photographed them. Torn paper edges and reflexes of the richly contrasting lighting reveal the pure materiality of the traditional photo paper. The deepest black usually underlies this, which bestows on the still-lifes a fascinating depth, reminiscent of the view from a foreign planet into the expanse of the universe. But it is certainly not just a matter of technique. The motifs on the photo paper fragments are sometimes more, sometimes less easily deciphered. Visible are skin surfaces. The human being is fragmented, torn into pieces, his image re-arranged and presented through fine aesthetics: This is how a photo book with the potential to become a future classic can look, thanks to a tight interlacing of form and content.«
