JIN OHASHI »SURRENDED MYSELF TO THE CHAIR OF LIFE« – selected by MARK PEARSON

»This is a spectacular book that can be enjoyed on many levels. What strikes us first is the sheer size and weight of it. The opening is quiet, as if introducing the characters of the piece. Next, we are led onto a fantastic stage, involving synchronized mass nudity that somehow reminds me of Busby Berkeley set pieces. It’s crazy. But in a world where we see many sensitive, thoughtful photobooks, a big noisy production like this makes a great impression. Beyond that, we can welcome the book as a significant addition to the library of nude photography. What about the meaning? I don’t know whether the author has an explicit message for us about the human condition. Maybe not, but perhaps that is for the best. It is up to us to decide.«
