ANDY SEWELL »THE HEATH« – selected by DEWI LEWIS

»THE HEATH is an attentively considered and beautifully produced book. Self-published by the photographer, it is an evocative study of London’s Hampstead Heath that draws you into a world which is neither entirely natural nor man-made. It evidences the tension between urban and rural, the mark of man on the landscape, and the hidden and often disquieting stories that lurk in the undergrowth. It offers up a very human story, not just in the few images that show people — the dog walkers or the bathers — but in the signs within the landscape that hint at deeper narratives. Throughout there are the tiny details that add nuance and texture, and act as stepping off points for the imagination and for contemplation. This is a wonderful book that rewards repeated reading.«
