DAIDO MORIYAMA »VIEW FROM THE LABORATORY« – selected by SATOSHI MACHIGUCHI

»The first photograph ever taken in the world was “View from the Window at Le Gras”. That was the outcome of the discovery of photography and the discovery of shooting by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in July 1827. A lot of time passed between when “View from the Window at Le Gras” was taken 186 years ago and when Daido Moriyama visited the sacred site known as Saint-Loup, where the house of Niépce still exists, and again photographed the moments of light and shadow in his own view from that same place. The book is the record of Moriyama’s trip towards the birth of photography.«
